In Memory of Charles and Blanche Britt Members of the Charles R. Britt Sunday School Class wish to use this space to honor Dr. Charles Britt, for whom this class was named. Dr. Britt died on October 17, 2003 just a few years after his beloved wife, Blanche, died. Both will be remembered for their intellect, loving kindness, and constant dedication to making the world a better place. They were particularly sensitive to people in need, whether that need was for food, shelter, financial help or a friend to sit with in times of crisis. We were honored that Dr. Britt chose to participate in our class after his long professional career, first as a Christian missionary in Africa, then as Senior Minister of the Auburn United Methodist Church (1968 to 1979). Wherever he walked, Dr. Britt inspired people to do their best, encouraged them when times were difficult, and when necessary, took a strong stand on conditions he thought needed to be improved. Dr. Britt is remembered especially by the people to whom he ministered and counseled, the students he taught to think for themselves rather than follow the crowd, and the scores of deep friendships he made along the way. His wisdom embraced a broad range of subjects, and his skill as a communicator was a phenomenon to behold. He will be remembered, too, for his concern for the plight of others when things went wrong. Members of his Sunday School Class will recall his sharp wit and the clarity of his thoughts during discussions of Christianity, as well as current issues confronting the community, state or nation. His normal gentle demeanor was sometimes deceptive until someone crossed the line of truth or stated an opinion he felt was hastily drawn or overstated. Then he would place the issue in perspective and enlighten his listener with calm precision. Blanche and Charles Britt were a team who gave love and support to each other and to their family. Both lived their lives fully and productively as long as they lived. They made a difference. They left this world a better place. Members of the Charles Britt Sunday School Class
